OUR TEAMS

UWCC's projects, operations, and events would not be possible without our amazing teams!

OUR PARTNERS

One of UWCC's goals is to increase community engagement. We partner with campus groups to help us with this goal!

UWCC originally initiated in Fall 2012 under the name “University of Waterloo Compost Coalition” and was established by Joshua Jodoin and a team of Environment students. In 2012-2013 much of the research and groundwork was prepared for the eventual launch of the idea. In 2013, the project was passed on to four students, Kevin Rotseart, Clover Mei, Mike Hager, and Brandon Caron.

Through 2013-2014, Clover and Mike continued the groundwork while each of them were on campus in order to establish this campus service. In 2014, Brandon, Clover, and Mike, established the executive team along with Andres Rodriguez and Monique Yu. They re-launched the project under “University of Waterloo Campus Compost” as the team’s operations had evolved significantly different than it had in the past.

To date, our fully student-run composting operation is perhaps the most unique among Canadian post-secondary institutions. Having selected and acquired a compost drum from Actium Composting, in 2014-2015 UWCC executed our pilot operation, which ultimately ended in success and close to 2,200 lbs. of organics diverted. Within this pilot year, UWCC collaborated and became part of Sustainable Campus Initiative to help further spread our ties and voice our support with all green initiatives on campus.

Despite some stumbles along the way, UWCC has shown tremendous potential in becoming more successful in our operations. Thus far, UWCC have provided our services to various faculty offices, food services, coffee shops, and events. As well, we have collaborated with orientation leaders by providing services to selected events during orientation week.

We are continually seeking the best way to maximize our capacity each term, and we appreciate the help of all our volunteers who have helped us come this far.
